A CVD (chemical vapor deposition) diamond is a synthetic diamond that is produced artificially in a laboratory, unlike the natural diamond which creates itself through a natural geological process. The diamond is made using pure carbon that is crystallized in isotropic 3D form.
*_*Are CVD Diamonds Real Diamonds?*_*
Yes, CVD diamonds are real diamonds. Although grown in a lab, CVD diamonds are gem-quality diamonds that have the same elemental structure and the same physical, chemical and optical properties as their natural counterparts. In addition, CVD diamonds are polished and cut the same as natural diamonds so the difference between the two is impossible to spot to the naked eye.
CVD stones undergo the same certification process as natural diamonds and are graded according to the 4Cs - color, cut, clarity, and carat. In addition, the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) has been grading laboratory-grown diamonds since 2007 and each stone comes with an official grading report upon purchase to confirm its quality and value.
**_**Are All Lab-Grown Diamonds CVD Diamonds?**_**
As mentioned above, not all lab-grown diamonds are CVD diamonds. Lab diamonds can also be created using the HPHT process. According to GIA, “high-pressure, high-temperature synthetic diamonds are produced from carbon material in apparatuses that mimic the high pressure, high-temperature conditions of natural diamond formation in the earth.”
What is a Lab-Created Diamond?
A lab-grown diamond is one that has been manufactured in a controlled laboratory environment. Using the popular methods of Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) or High-Pressure High Temperature (HPHT), scientists can now create diamonds that optically look like earth-mined diamonds, contain the same chemical and physical attributes, and even receive certification through the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) and International Gemological Institute (IGI).
Are Lab Diamonds Real?
Oh yes. Lab-Grown Diamonds are just as real as diamonds that are mined from the earth. They have shape, size, color, and clarity grades, just like Natural Diamonds. Both Natural and Lab Grown Diamonds have the same physical and chemical properties and both come with diamond certifications.
